Dr. Yervant Zorian is the President of Synopsys Armenia, CTO & Fellow at Synopsys. Formerly, he was Vice President and Chief Scientist of Virage Logic, Chief Technologist at LogicVision, and a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff AT&T Bell Laboratories. He is currently the Vice President of the IEEE Computer Society, President of IEEE Test Technology Technical Council (TTTC), the founder and chair of the IEEE 1500 Standardization Working Group, the Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of the IEEE Design and Test of Computers Magazine. He served on the Board of Governors of Computer Society and CEDA, and was the Vice President of IEEE Computer Society, the General Chair of the 50th Design Automation Conference (DAC) and the 50th International Test Conference (ITC) as well as several other symposia and workshops. He is a member of the Armenian Society of Fellows.
Dr. Zorian holds more than 45 US patents, has authored four books, published over 400 refereed papers and received numerous best paper awards. A Fellow of the IEEE since 1999, Dr. Zorian was the 2005 recipient of the prestigious Industrial Pioneer Award for his contribution to BIST, and the 2006 recipient of the IEEE Hans Karlsson Award for diplomacy. In 2014 he received the IEEE Distinguished Services Award for leading the TTTC, the IEEE Meritorious Award for outstanding contributions to EDA․In the same year, he was awarded the State Medal of the Republic of Armenia in the field of science. In 2022 Dr. Zorian received IEEE TTTC Lifetime Contribution Award. In 2025, Dr. Zoryan was awarded the First-Class Order “For Services to Armenia” for his significant contribution to the development of the high-tech sector in Armenia, his long-term tireless activity, and his dedication.
Dr. Zoryan is a foreign member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the American University of Armenia (AUA). He is the Vice President of the Central Board of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), the founding president of the AGBU Silicon Valley branch, and the founding president of the Armenian Virtual College (AVC). He is a member of the Council for the Development of Science and Technology of Armenia under the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, and the Chairman of the Program Committee of the ArmTech Congress. Dr. Zorian is the author and initiator of several new programs aimed at preserving and evolving Armenian identity and network such as Armenian Virtual Bridge, AVC Learning Zone, Artificial Intelligence STEP.ai Multimedia Program for High Schools․ He is the Chairman of the Boards of Trustees of the HyeConnect Foundation and APRI Armenia Foundation, and heads the technology block․
He received an MS degree in Computer Engineering from University of Southern California, a PhD in Electrical Engineering from McGill University, and an MBA from Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. He is an Adjunct Professor at University of British Columbia․In recognition of his outstanding contribution, in 1997 Dr. Zorian was awarded an honorary doctorate from the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia and in 2024 he is awarded with the Honorary Doctorate title from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca (UTCN).
In recognition of Zorian’s achievements and the revolution he brought to the way students are educated, in 2022 the Santa Clara City Council and the Mayor of Santa Clara declared September 1 as “Dr. Yervant Zorian Day.”
